My story as a citizen of the world

Born in Colombia, Raised in Curaçao, Based in the Rotterdam, NL

I was born in the city of coffee, Armenia, in the Quindío department of Colombia. Hence, my day can’t start without drinking coffee. At the age of four, I moved to the beautiful island of Curaçao in the Dutch Caribbean. Since then, my journey has taken me to Fort Lauderdale, USA, where I studied Glamour & Special FX makeup.

My Journey continued in 2015 to the Netherlands, where I studied Cosmetology and worked for five years as a Hair & Makeup artist. Later on in 2020, I start my studies at the University of Applied Sciences of Rotterdam.

Creativity, adaptability and people have always been the common thread in my journey. Living in different countries and being fluent in Dutch, English, Spanish, and Papiamentu has sparked my interest in different cultures and people. I get energy from working with diverse individuals, solving problems and coming up with creative and valuable solutions that really connect with people.

FAQ

‘How did you end up in design?’

In 2020, amidst the pandemic, I decided to quit my job in the beauty industry as a Hair & Makeup artist. During this time, I got to experience first-hand the challenges we were facing as a society in making a healthy match between people and the digital world. On the other hand, this period also sparked my creativity by learning how to use Adobe Creative Cloud and ‘Spark AR’ Augmented Reality software by making my own augmented reality filter. Creating this filter enabled me and other Dutch Caribbeans to express ourselves in our native language, Papiamentu.

The journey and the learnings while making this AR-filter made me look different at the digital products and technology around me. Once I realized that I had practically been a designer since 2015, it was natural for me to expand my horizons and switch career to UX design and start my studies at the University of Applied Sciences of Rotterdam.
